We left Wichita on Saturday, 6/1. It was a long boring drive to Waco, NE. Diesel prices are outrageous. We had to pay $3.099 in Waco. The cheapest we have seen is $2.840. I do not remember where that was.
In Waco we stayed at the Double Nickle Campground. The Campground is right next to I-80 so there was lots of traffic noise. The only problem we had was the GPS took us to a sport about 10 miles North of the park. Fortunately, that did not cause any real problems.
The park is an older park that is well maintained. Very family oriented with lots of things for kids to do, to include a pinball arcade. We did not do much in the area, other than hit Walmart a couple of times. There does not seem to be a lot to do in Waco, although they do have a golf course.
We left on Monday, 6/3. When we left it was raining, something not uncommon this year. Fortunately for us, this is the only time this year that we had to pack up in the rain.
I cannot believe all of the flooding we are seeing. I feel sorry for the farmers. We saw flooded fields and fields where plowing had started but not finished due to the rain. We saw very few fields that had an active crop growing in them. This is going to be a tough year for the farmers.
The drive was miserable. We finally drove out of the rain, but the winds were very bad. We are scheduled to have a steering stabilizer installed when we get to Salt Lake City later this month. I was beat when we arrived. We are staying at the Mitchell KOA. We have stayed here before. We elected to eat out instead of cook. We ended up at the Double Dragon Restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, although I would have appreciated a larger portion.
Today it was off to the Corn Palace. Pictures are below. All the artwork was created by nailing corn husks that had been cut in half lengthwise to the building. They do a different design each year. This year’s theme is a salute to the military. The building is interesting as most days it is a retail outlet, however, it can also be sued as a basketball arena or a theater for live performances.
Tomorrow it is off the Rapid City, SD area. We will be there for about a week before heading for Wyoming where we will get our awning repaired. The motor is fried. Fried is a technical term meaning it does not work any longer. 😊 Personnel from Shade Pro in Southern CA will be at Rock Springs for a rally that is being held there. We will stay close to the rally so they can replace the awning arms and motor. A friend of ours recommended this firm.
