We headed out of Ruston to Hot Springs, AR. We wanted go to Little Rock, but all the parks were booked for the Memorial Day Weekend. We managed to get reservations at the Leisure Landing Campground in Hot Springs. We only stayed one full day so we did not see much. We did get to the botanical garden which was very nice. Below are some pictures
Our next stop was at the Downstream Casino campground. The campground is literally a parking lot with lines painted to show where to park. Only water and electricity were available. Because we joined their players club our one night was free.
While here the KOA in Wellington called. They were still on flood watch and there was standing water where we were scheduled to park. As the result, they let us cancel our reservations. They also held our mail which was shipped to them. Really nice people own the park. When I drove down on Memorial Day, the park was almost empty. Not good.
We were fortunate and found a place to stay at the Air Capital RV park. It is a nice park, but limited in amenities. We started out driving in sunshine, but once in Kansas we were in the rain. For a bit I was concerned about tornados. Fortunately, we had no problems with the trip, but we did have to take a detour because US 400 was closed due to flooding. Becky used our Witicha stop too visit her sister and Dad in Clearwater. While in Wichita, we also went to the Humane Society where we found a cat for us. We were really lucky. She is 1.5 years old, housebroken and used to dogs. Her name is Cali, but I think it should be curiosity. So far, she has been a joy to have. Below is a picture of her on her favorite spot on top of the bird cage.
My next post will be about our trip from Wichita to Mitchell, SD. The home of the Corn Palace.
