From Bismarck we traveled to Garfield, MN. We stayed at Oak Park Campground. This is an older park with lots of mature trees. While here we visited the Runestone Museum and The Legacy of the Lakes Museum. The Runestone museum has been dated as being made in 1362. How it traveled to this country and ended up in a tree root in MN is still a mystery. Below are some pictures from the two museums.
After Garfield, we did not do much exciting. We traveled to Hixon, WS, Benton Harbor, MI and finally to Midland, MI. We went to Midland to have some BBQ, having met one of the owners in Mesa when they stayed on the lot next to us for a week. The name of the BBQ is Bone Daddy. Unfortunately, they were in the process of moving to a new and larger location so we did not get to try the BBQ.
Our next stop was in Whitehouse, OH, where we visited Fort Megis and the Butterfly House. Both were interesting, but it was really hot in the Butterfly House.
Fort Megis was an important fortification from the War of 1812 in stopping the British and Indian attacks from the North during the war. The Butterfly House is a located near Whitehouse and is privately owned. What I found interesting is that the State does not allow the owners of the facility to breed the butterflies. Any larva they find have to be killed. As the result, they have to buy new butterflies about every three weeks. Below are some photos from Fort Megis and The Butterfly House.
Whitehouse was the last of our touring stops for a while. Our next stops were Conneaut, OH, Wolcott, NY, Newport, NH and then in Pownal, ME. This stop was supposed to be for a lobster roll, however, live Main Lobster was on sale for $5.98 per pound. We ate a total of ten while we were there. Six we had cooked, but we cooked four on out own. Below are two photos of our guests. Today we are in Scarborough, ME. Below is a picture of a 145 lb. chocolate lobster as well as one from our campfire last night. It does not get any better than this. We have been watching Hurricane Dorian, but it looks like it will not impact our travels. Tomorrow, we are off to Salem, CT
