Welcome to The Wandering Ayes

Welcome to The Wandering Ayes. We are John and Becky traveling with our furry friends, Freckles and Scotty. A little about us. We live full time in our motorhome. Our goal is to drive the motorhome in every state except Hawaii. Unfortunately, we cannot find a boat to take our motorhome there. Please join us on our journey around the country. Just a word of warning, there are going to be spelling and grammar errors Read more…

Connecticut

We made the drive to Salem, CT with no problems.  We are staying at the Witch Meadow Lake Campground in Salem.  The trip was not too bad, but it appears there are no rest stops with restrooms along I95 in MA or RI.  As we approached the NH state line going South on I95 there was a huge sign advising that the next turnoff led to a NH Liquor Store and Lottery Sales store.  The Read more…

Minnesota to Maine

From Bismarck we traveled to Garfield, MN.  We stayed at Oak Park Campground.  This is an older park with lots of mature trees.  While here we visited the Runestone Museum and The Legacy of the Lakes Museum.  The Runestone museum has been dated as being made in 1362.  How it traveled to this country and ended up in a tree root in MN is still a mystery.  Below are some pictures from the two museums. Bismarck, ND

Another uneventful dive for the most part.  There was some road construction giving some narrow lanes of traffic.  We stayed in the Bismarck KOA. It is a nice park and easy to get to.  The park gave us a coupon for an eight-cents a gallon discount on fuel which we took advantage when we left.  We had a back in spot with lots of shade.  On the way in I saw a park with a Read more…

Miles City, Montana

Our trip to the Miles City KOA was uneventful, but getting in out was exciting.  The bridge over the RR tracks was being worked on.  The traffic was one way and controlled by a portable traffic light.  There was less than one lane of room on the bridge coming in.  On the way out, there was a support for a crane truck intruding into what was already a narrow lane.  My speed was about 2mph Read more…

Three Forks, MT

We made it to Three Forks, MT which is considered the headwaters of the Missouri River.  The three river forks are the Madison, Jefferson and Gallatin Rivers.  I did not do a good Job of picking a campground.  The campground is an old KOA so the sites are tight as are the roads.  Wi-Fi is weak and only two bars on Verizon so not much internet. Saturday, we drove up to Yellowstone National Park.  Part Read more…

Kennewick to Missoula, MT

Becky made it through driving school.  We both learned a lot, especially how to back up.  We have been doing it all wrong.  We used to stand in back of the motor home and try to communicate via hand signals or telephone.  The way we learned was to stand by a front window, depending on which way you want to turn and talk the driver through the procedure turning the steering wheel to the center, Read more…

Mt. Saint Helens to Kennewick, WA

On Saturday we went back to Mt. St. Helens for a second time.  This time there was no rain and the weather was great.  We took along sandwiches from Subway and had a nice lunch in the parking lot of the Observatory at Richardson Ridge, about five miles from the crater. From the Observatory you are looking at where the mountain blew. Admission to the Observatory is $5.00, however, since I have a National Park Read more…

A lesson learned

For a couple of days, the car Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in the car and the remote system have been saying the left front tire pressure was low.  I checked the tire pressure manually and it was fine.  I thought we had a sensor failure, again, and it was somehow causing a problem with the remote system.  Today, I finally went to my favorite tire chain, Discount Tires, to get the sensor checked.   The Read more…

La Grande, Oregon to Vancouver, WA

Tuesday, we tried out the soaking pools.  They were really nice.  There were two of them and we tried both.  Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the camera so no pictures, which may be a blessing. We’d we left for Vancouver a day early.  My bad with the calendar. Fortunately, the manager at 99 RV Park, Tim, had one spot left.  It was a back in which I do not like.  Tim told us we could Read more…

Wyoming to Oregon

The Safe-T-Steer Plus was installed at Charlie’s in Sunset, UT.  Safe-T-Steer is designed to help control a vehicle in the event of a blow out. It uses hydraulic cylinders to help keep the steering tires straight if a blow out happens. They also help in heavy winds by doing the same thing. We also had the engine compartment door fixed as it was coming apart.  The Safe-T-Steer was put to use the day we left.  Read more…
